WellSpring Community Network members Alanna Shea and Sarah Taylor attended the annual CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) conference held outside Washington D.C. The theme for the 2015 Forum was "Mission: Possible Agents of Change." WellSpring is currently in their sixth year of a Drug-Free Communities federal grant, which runs for a maximum of ten years.
Taylor attended a workshop presented by a coalition from San Barbara, California discussing financial sustainability after grant money has run out. One of the workshops Shea attended examined collecting personal narrative from youth and using them to design a prevention campaign.
Those attending the conference were allowed to board shuttle buses to the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Representatives from each state met with their various senators to education them about prevention work in their communities. A large group of Washington State citizens attended a brief meeting with Senator Patty Murray and her staff. After the meeting, Taylor and Shea took the opportunity to walk around the national mall and enjoy some of the beautiful monuments and museums in the area.
Thank you to WellSpring for sponsoring an enjoyable and educational trip!
