Brownlee helps students at Long Beach and Ocean Park elementary schools make bowls to raise funds and awareness on hunger. Parents can purchase their child's bowls through a pre-order form. The children make the clay bowls, and Brownlee fires them. She then brings them back to the students to glaze and Brownlee fires them one last time. This program gives children a way to help feed the hungry. Each year students make a different type of bowl.
The funds raised has gone to His Supper Table, F.I.S.H., and the Community Table. Locally, Empty Bowls raises about $5,000 annually. A sponsorship program is in place where individuals can buy bowls and give it back to the child who made it.
