The WA State Exemplary Substance Abuse Award recognizes individuals and organizations from across the state who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and advocacy in the prevention field. Bruncke has been an active member and officer of the youth coalitions Youth Empowerment Squad (YES) and Youth Action Klub (YAK) for the past four and a half years. In that time she has helped organize seven YAK Nights, multiple Red Ribbon Week campaigns, and attended several youth leadership trainings. Her devotion to improving school environment is clear in her involvement in numerous clubs and sports at IHS. Her peers and teachers often refer to Bruncke as the benchmark for youth leadership. In all activities, Bruncke demonstrates a spirit of compassion, inclusion, and collaboration.
The award ceremony was opened with a speech by General Arthur T. Dean, chairman and CEO of Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), on the importance and value of community leaders. The ceremony was officiated by Lieutenant Governor of Washington State Brad Owen and six awards were given to individuals and organizations.
