The Youth Action Klub (YAK) hosted another successful Color the Lake Fun Run on Saturday June 2nd around Black Lake in Ilwaco, aiming to promote mental health awareness among fellow students and their community. This is the second year Youth Action Klub (YAK), the youth arm of our WellSpring Community Network, has coordinated this event with great success, and they could not be more excited about the outcome.

YAK president Eddie Hillard said, “It’s been 4 years in the making. The project started from our Sources of Strength training which has a color wheel, and we wanted to create a fun event for the community incorporating that idea. This seemed like a natural fit.”

For those not hip to “Color Runs,” it’s a chance to run (or walk) a 5k around Black Lake while getting sprayed with a color powder. YAK’s event was a fun, festive way to promote mental health, connections, and healthy activities for all in our community.

This year we were excited to have 123 participants and approximately thirty youth and adult volunteers. This event was free to Ocean Beach School District students with their ASB cards and only a small fee to other community members with funds going to future YAK events.

This year’s result was full of laughter, smiles, and a few extra cycles of laundry. “Community support and student excitement is what it takes for this to event to be successful,” Hillard emphasized.

We at WellSpring could not be more proud of the YAK team and this year’s colorful experience. We are excited to see this continue and look forward to future runs!
